Pilates at Home

Lockdown has given us the opportunity to launch our Pilates at Home classes. These give you the opportunity to practice Pilates in your home. You can join our classes live or watch them in your own time. All our Pilates at Home classes are presented by physiotherapist and Clinical Pilates instructor Kate. They are suitable for all levels.

Gently explore movement, balance and exercises in a variety of postures. A gentler class but there will be something that challenges even the most experienced!

Sometimes some of the simplest exercises can be the hardest. Perfect the basics and be challenged by some of the harder moves and advanced exercises

Getting the most from your ‘at home’ Pilates session

  • Have a ‘test run’ of your set up. To begin with it can be difficult following a live class. Make sure you you can see the screen whatever position you are working in. You may find it helpful to watch some of the recorded classes first as you can hit the pause button when you need to.
  • As you become more familiar with Kate’s style and the flow of the classes you will find you can easily follow a live class.
  • You don’t need a mat but it is useful to have some rolled up towels and small cushions to hand. Kate will sometimes use some small equipment, resistance bands, Pilates ball or small weights. However all the exercises can be done without equipment.
  • You’re in the comfort of your own home so you can wear whatever you want but ideally try and practice barefoot or in socks.
  • Quality is always better than quantity – if you are new to exercise you may not manage all the repetitions – that’s ok! Gradually build up over time and if you decide to try a harder Pilates class please be mindful of this – the exercises are harder!
  • Try and learn to distinguish between the ‘good ouch’ and the ‘bad ouch’ – this can often be difficult if you have been in pain for a long time. The ‘good ouch’ is muscles that haven’t worked properly for some time – that good old exercise ache! You want to feel the muscles ache from the work they are doing.
  • If you are sore, movement can often be beneficial, although it can be against our natural instincts. Use our easier ‘Move’ class to gently ease any discomfort and help your back ‘learn’ how to move again if you have a flare up.

So why not join us from the comfort if your own home and take your Pilates to the next level. If you have never tried Pilates before please  get in touch to book a bespoke 1:1 session with Kate.
