HIT Pilates

HIT Pilates is a unique fusion of High Intensity Training (HIT) and Clinical Pilates. This brings together the enormous benefits of High Intensity Training with the precision of Pilates

What is High Intensity Training?

High Intensity Training (HIT) or High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is an exercise strategy alternating periods of short intense exercise with recovery periods. A HIT session can vary from 4 – 30 minutes in length. HIT training is incredibly popular due to it’s impact on fat burning, glucose metabolism and improved fitness. As a result many people complete HIT workouts with poor technique. They may also work at a level they may not be ready for.

Pilates and HIT

Pilates teaches us control and precision in all exercises. It gives us the ability to apply the key principles, alignment, breathing and correct muscle activation to life. To our day to day postures, work and recreation.

The key principles of Pilates mean you get a great workout with correct form and function when combined with High Intensity Training. The HIT class incorporates rest periods and Pilates exercises alongside the High Intensity workout.

What to expect in a High Intensity Pilates class

Our High Intensity Pilates classes lasts around 40 minutes. We start with a Pilates based warm up followed by a HIT circuit of more challenging and dynamic exercises. The session is completed with a more gentle programme of Clinical Pilates and a cool down. We find that this is the perfect mix of the benefits of higher intensity training and the precision of Clinical Pilates.

I find the high intensity Pilates at The Physios the ideal mix for me. I have been doing Pilates for a number of years and felt like I wanted an extra ‘push’. When Kate suggested giving her HIT class a go I was a little apprehensive. I thought that it would be too aggressive but I find the mix between the higher intensity exercises and the more traditional Pilates moves just right. It also helps to be under Kate’s watchful eye as I am confident that she understand my previous back pain and adjusts the exercises for me.

Is HIT Pilates for you?

By blending HIT with Clinical Pilates we can modify the exercises to meet an individual’s needs. With all our classes, we modify what we ask you to do based on your clinical history and ability. Our HIT sessions will work you in a different way to a Clinical Pilates class – the exercises are higher impact (jumping) or require faster changes of position. Still not sure if HIT Pilates is for you – just ask us!
